"Nature as Therapy"

Entrance Plaza

The Entrance plaza was created like a loft, where people can gather around the space. The steel cables form an indirect wall to bring the exterior into the site while still creating a sense of involvement with the main building within the space.

Main Atrium

The main atrium was created using the trellis due to our focus of creating a space using the idea of stacking and repetition. The reasoning was that linear lines can be therapeutic as they give a sense of neatness, which can alleviate stress from people who prefer to keep things orderly. We then decided to include greenery within the open space of the main building to add some life within the space.

Office

The office, located at level one, is a space where we brought the external curvilinear forms on the floors into the interiors of the building. We then decided to create a rather formal yet informal space, in light of the users and the function of the space. This was done through the use of neutral and more natural colors, which was used to create a soft environment and for a simple emphasis of the main counter by contrast of colors.

Office

The other half of the office which then transitioned the curvilinear forms and linear forms from the floor and ceiling respectively to create a transition from the curvy forms of the floor into the orderly and linear forms of the furniture used to create a more regular office setting.
This includes the lighting, which was created to be an “echo” of the trellis in a more miniscule fashion. Drop lights were used to create an emphasis on a few specific areas such as the pantry, to create a more intimate and calm surrounding.

Workshop Hall

As the main objective of the client was to create a space that allowed for bonding in the site, it was important for the space to have the connectivity that the design of this area provided. The connectivity and indirect privacy would also create pathways around the space for circulation. These workshop halls would also allow for greenery to come into the space directly to become part of the design, which would also further bring the outside environment into the spaces.

Function Room

The function room was made to mainly accommodate for 2 main functions and workshops; terrarium and aquarium building. As both of the functions were similar, albeit the use of water, the room was created with no separations outside of the storeroom. In this current angle, the room was built with the idea of making a terrarium in itself, which sort of synergizes with the function users are meant to use the space for.

Function Room

From this angle, the function room is made for aquarium building. To synergize along with the function, water was added alongside the edges of the room, to create a sort of “flow”. Furnitures on this side of the room mostly have water being used within their designs as well, which allows for a calming sensation within the space through the blue mind effect. Furthermore, to further emphasize on the aquarium concept of this space, the glass walls on this specific side are covered with a planter wall to make the space more private at the same time.

Water Feature

The water feature was created as a cooling element for the site, which is generally very warm, aside from the sea breeze. The water is meant to serve as a calming factor, through the blue mind effect, which refers to the mild meditative state of mind we fall into when near water. The water, aside from just being a cooling feature, could also possibly be used as an area for hydrotherapy. Children could also possibly use the space as a mini water playground, as the sea could be too risky for them.

Campground & Garden

On the left, we have the therapeutic sensory garden. It has a diversity of plants, which attracts fauna, is edible, has a nice fragrant, gives texture to the landscape and is colourful, and easy on the eyes. On the right, we have the campgrounds, where campers can setup tents or hammocks to rest in. There are also passive green spaces near the tent areas to host outdoor activities for campers.

Motive: The objective of this project is to redevelop PAssion WaVe @Sembawang into a space where users can explore the site sensorily while bonding families and youth.

Programmes & Features

We use activities like eco-art therapy and sensory garden trials to provide users with a sense of tranquillity so that they can relax and recharge while getting away from work or personal stresses.

However, we also included activities like the high element area to allow users to challenge themselves after "recharging".

Hence, the key points in our vision, to "recharge, adapt and overcome".
